Privacy and security

How your vault key protects your notes.

  • Your vault key is the password. Anyone with the key or a pairing link can read and edit your vault. Only open it on your own devices.
  • Keys can't be guessed. New keys are 16 random characters. Keys made by older versions (like amber-neuron-123) can be; HiveSight warns you and can move your ideas to a secure key in one tap.
  • The key is never stored as-is on the server. Vaults are stored under a fingerprint (hash) of the key, and nobody can list or browse vaults.
  • The key leaves the address bar right after a pairing link opens, so it isn't left on screen or in your history.
  • Shared ideas and projects use their own keys: sharing one idea never gives access to the rest of your vault.
  • Backup files contain your key: keep them as private as the key.
  • AI agents you connect with the MCP server use your key too. Keep it in the AI app's settings only, never in a code repository.
